POSITIONED FOR IMPACT!

As you may or may not know, I am a die-hard sports fan. In particular, I love football! I love it so much that my wife can testify to the fact that when I hear the Monday Night Football theme music, I literally get chills! You might think I’m joking, but I’m not. My love for football started at an early age. I started playing organized football when I was just seven years old, and I played every year until I graduated high school in 1984. Until high school, I played quarterback and defensive back. However, once I hit high school the offensive line started growing in height, but my growth hormones were being stubborn, and I pretty much leveled out at 5’6”.  It became tough to see the wide receivers over the offensive line, and I quickly realized that I better stick to defensive back. I played cornerback throughout high school, and I was pretty good. I even had visions of going on to play in college, but alas, my 5’ 6”, 150 lb. frame, stocky as it was, would only allow me to be courted by Walla Walla Junior College. I decided to opt for enlisting in the US Air Force instead, and my football career was over before it ever really began. However, in my years of playing football I learned about the power of positioning. If you’re going to make that key tackle, or that key block, you have to be in the right position; shoulders down, head up, knees bent, and feet driving, as you initiate the contact! If you’re not in the right position, not only will you probably not make the play, it’s very likely that you’ll get knocked flat on your back side. Positioning is everything!

The same thing is true in life. If you don’t get yourself in the right position for growth and impact, it’s probably not going to happen. So, how do you get positioned for impact? Here are a few tips:

Know what you want to do in life

Get a vision for your life and the direction you want to go, and make that your aim. By the way, if you lack a vision for your life God has one for you, and as you seek Him it will begin to come into focus and come into fruition.

Determine the level of impact you want to have

Are you content to settle for status quo, or are you willing to challenge yourself to rise to your full potential in the area of impact? By the way, the potential God sees in you is much higher than what you may see for yourself.

Get the right training and mentoring

No matter how much potential you may have, it’s always beneficial to put yourself in situations where you can learn from those who have more knowledge and experience; those who have gone before you and done what you want to do. Find people who have knowledge and qualities that you admire, and look for ways to learn from them.

Align yourself with the right people

I’ve learned that you can be on the right road in life, but if you’re not aligned and partnered with the right people it can make life more difficult, and it can hinder your progress. To be a person of impact you need people on your team who have the same heart and vision, and have complimentary talents and abilities to yours.

Many of us fail to realize our potential impact in life simply because we don’t get ourselves in the right position. We’re not “Positioned for Impact”.

I see this principle at work in our church right now. I’ve been here at MFC for about 20 years, and we have had a certain amount of impact in those years, but I believe God has positioned us now for a greater level of impact than we have ever seen! When I look at the amazingly gifted and anointed people that call Mukilteo Foursquare their church home, the strength of our pastoral and leadership team, the unity of heart and vision for Jesus to shine through us to our community, I believe that there is no limit to the impact we could have as we work together for the cause of Christ. We are positioned for impact!

How about you? Are you positioned for impact? Do you have a sense of where you’re going and what you want to do in life, or more importantly, what God wants to do through you? Getting into the right position probably won’t just happen; you have to be intentional about it. Remember, when it comes to making the key play in life, position is everything!

Blessings,

Pastor Jeff
